The constant upkeep is why I started doing my own cuts. A $25 Wahl clipper kept me tidy for almost 3 years. Then I didn't want to wear it so severely short anymore. Now it's to the stage where it's too long not to blow-dry and style, but it's still too short to ponytail. Also I have to use the car's a/c because open car windows mean ruined 'do. It's irking the crap out of me. Wash, gel, and go hair definitely has its advantages. I have a couple of friends (besides you) who are in the not quite Asian/not quite white hair dilemma. One just let it be long, long and lets it hang down her back or twists it into a big loose knot when she needs it out of the way. The other opted for a a chin-length Asian chop bob, which she says makes her feel like a dopey stereotype but goes a long way toward settling others' race confusion. She's Mongol Chinese and white and tended to be lumped in with whatever the local darker minority was. She's been thought Puerto Rican, Native American, Mexican, Persian, Dominican, Inuit, or Black depending on where she lived. Now she lives outside Seattle and is usually recognized as 'some kind of Asian' which makes her laugh. My cousins and little sister were totally envious of my white hair's texture, if not the lousy color. What they've spent on hair relaxer could have put them each through medical school. ~LA
